Product Details

A stainless steel time only manually wound wrist watch by Longines. This is an example of one of the many military and civilian issued wrist watches by the Longines watch company. This reference, the 5150, was a very popular three hand watch during the 1940's and '50's. Many of these were issued to soldiers on both sides of the fighting. Simple, easy to use and read, and hard working, they made for the perfect tool watch.

From receiving the archival information from Longines, the watch was invoiced to the Longines-Wittnauer watch company on the 4th June 1943, thus more than likely making this an issued watch during WW2, during the peak of the conflict. The watch came from a collection with the other Longines on the site which was issued, with a signed caseback. The dial in this case has been refinished, but it has been refinished in the correct manner for watches issued. The bold Arabic numerals are quite large and, along with the original blue steeled hands, are filled with luminous material. The correct hand set is present, as is the larger, easier to operate, winding crown. All parts that are often lost or replaced over the course of time. The case is presented in strong condition being lightly polished, with lugs still thick and sharp on the edges. The watch is powered by the Longines caliber 12.68N manually wound, also known simply as the 12L.

This watch is a great example of watches that helped win the Second World War for the allies. Many of these were used due to their positive attributes discussed earlier. So, if you are looking for a clean and robust vintage watch, look no further. If it was good enough for a WW2 GI, it can work for you!
